Gouged oboe cane, ready to be shaped and tied. Cane is sorted from batches of tube cane based on straightness of the bark side, roundness and size of the arc, and quality of the material.
QUALITY: Our gouged cane is sorted into two levels: regular cane and practice cane.
“Regular” cane is geared toward oboists who are comfortable making their own reeds, and are looking for a reliable source of gouged cane that will help guard against making “loose sided” reeds.
“Practice” cane is great for those who are newer to reed making. This cane might be slightly irregular in diameter or “sway backed” in straightness. These qualities may cause complications in the more advanced finishing stages of the reed, but this cane will still make a functioning reed! This level of cane is perfect for oboists to use to practice shaping, tying, and scraping.
